SYDNEY TRIP

SO I'M KIND OF HAVING TROUBLE SITTING STILL AT THE MOMENT... 2016 FOR ME HAS BEEN THE YEAR OF THE JETSET AND LAST WEEKEND BROUGHT YET ANOTHER CHANCE TO GET AWAY, THIS TIME FOR A GIRL'S WEEKEND IN SYDNEY.
MY ONLY OTHER EXPERIENCES OF SYDNEY THUS FAR HAVE BEEN A 6 MONTH STINT OF RESIDENCY WHEN I WAS A MERE 6 MONTHS OLD AND VERY POORLY NAVIGATED ROAD TRIP IN WHICH WE CIRCLED THE BRIDGE FOR AN HOUR  BUT GOT SO LOST TRYING TO PARK WE GAVE UP AND SET OFF HOME. BUT AFTER YEARS OF BEING FIERCELY LOYAL TO THE "MELBOURNE'S BETTER THAN SYDNEY" CAMP I THOUGHT IT WAS ABOUT TIME TO SEE WHAT LIFE ON THE OTHER SIDE WAS LIKE.
THE FIRST PORT OF CALL AND TOP MY MUST-SEE LIST WAS THE GROUNDS OF ALEXANDRIA. A 20 MINUTE UBER AWAY FROM OUR HOTEL IN THE CITY THE GROUNDS IS IN THE MOST UNEXPECTED LOCATION IN WHAT LOOKS LIKE A SEMI-INDUSTRIAL ESTATE. IF YOU'VE EVER WANTED TO KNOW WHAT IT WAS LIKE FOR ALICE TAKING HER FIRST STEPS INTO WONDERLAND THIS IS ABOUT AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET. YOU WALK THROUGH THE PERFECTLY OVERGROWN AND MARVELLOUSLY QUAINT GROUNDS TO DISCOVER OLD FASHIONED FOOD CARTS AND STALLS, A FLORIST, PETTING ZOO, RESTAURANT AND CAFES.  WHILE WAITING FOR OUR TABLE AT THE CAFE (HINT: GET THERE EARLY TO GET YOURSELF A SPOT ON THE WAITING LIST!) WE PICKED UP A CROISSANT TO TIDE US OVER AND EXPLORED THE CUTE LITTLE COURTYARDS AND ARTISAN MARKET.
WHILST THE STALLS ARE ADORNED WITH THE MOST TEMPTING OF TREATS- PASTRIES, FRUITS AND ALL SORTS OF OTHER GOODIES... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HOLDING OUT FOR THEIR CAFE MENU. BEING QUITE LOYAL TO THE SMASHED AVOCADO BRUNCH I WENT FOR THE OLD FAVOURITE AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY NEXT LEVEL.

AFTER THE GROUNDS WE HOPPED BACK TO PADDINGTON TO DO SOME MORE EXPLORING THROUGH PADDINGTON MARKETS AND SOME OF THE OXFORD STREET BOUTIQUES. I ABSOLUTELY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE TERRACE HOUSES THAT LINED THE SIDE STREETS, EACH ONE HAD IT'S OWN UNIQUE CHARACTER AND CHARM.
WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE AFTERNOON WE SPENT DOWN AT OPERA BAR WATCHING THE SUN SET BEHIND THE BRIDGE OVER THE HARBOUR. WITH DRINKS IN HAND IT WAS THE PERFECT WAY TO END THE DAY!

THE NEXT DAY WE GRABBED BRUNCH AT A LOCAL CAFE AND HOPPED IN AN UBER TO BONDI BEACH TO WALK THE FAMOUS BONDI-BRONTE TRACK. EVEN THOUGH THE DAY WAS SLIGHTLY OVERCAST, THE VIEWS OVER THE OCEAN WERE BREATHTAKING AND I BECAME INCREASINGLY JEALOUS OF ANYONE WHO HAS THE LUXURY OF CALLING THIS THEIR SUNDAY RITUAL. AFTER I THOROUGHLY EMBARRASSED MY FRIEND BY TAKING FAR TOO MANY PHOTOS OF THE VIEW, WE PICKED UP A COUPLE OF SMOOTHIES AND WANDERED OVER TO BONDI MARKETS. OUR LAST FEW HOURS WERE THEN SPENT LAYING ON THE BEACH SOAKING UP THE LAST MOMENTS OF OUR SYDNEY GETAWAY.
