I thought it would be nice to take some time to write a bit of a personal post today and share with you some updates. As you may well know I moved to Sydney (from Melbourne) in December 2016 and it has been a wonderful experience. I have loved the city, the beaches, the lifestyle and had many fantastic opportunities to grow and challenge myself. However this chapter is soon to close as in the next few weeks I will be working my way north again, this time to Brisbane. I have adored Sydney so on one hand it will be very sad to say goodbye but on the other I’m sure that Brisbane will present other new opportunities and adventures.
If there is one thing that I have really loved about this year it is that I really feel as though I have come into my own and felt more comfortable than ever in my own skin. Taking myself out of my comfort zone has given me the space to reflect on what I really want to do with my life, find my true style and what makes me feel my most confident.
I feel as though I have really found my style in Sydney, the city itself is a reflection of this. I really love urban city living but at the same time adore a relaxed, natural vibe. The cross section between Sydney’s stylish inner city lifestyle sitting right on the cusp of the country’s most beautiful coastline makes for a very unique atmosphere and you can see this amalgamation reflected in the style of the city’s inhabitants. Style is certainly at the forefront but relaxation and ease is always key.
It is no wonder so many iconic Australian designers are born from this environment. When you think of the likes of Heidi and Sarah-Jane of Sass and Bide and Nikki Zimmermann starting out selling at local markets in Bondi and Paddington, now some of the most successful and distinctly Australian fashion brands, you can see how the culture here has been a huge influence. In a sense, they have now grown to a point where they are engrained the culture - pretty much every Aussie girl’s ideal picture of summer features a Zimmermann bikini.
Speaking of Zimmermann, it has been fantastic to work for the brand in Sydney and pursue my interest in the fashion industry. Even after a few months this experience has opened my eyes immensely, not only has it has allowed me to learn how everything works behind the scenes, understand how consumers shop and grown my appreciation for fashion as a craft but it has informed me so much about what exactly I want to contribute to the industry. I always had a natural inclination towards sustainability but not long after starting this new chapter I really felt my passion for exploring the concept of sustainable fashion blossom, so much so that I made it my new emphasis on The Eve.
I am so happy with the ground I have covered so far, this new focus has opened me up to opportunities to work with some fabulous brands and lead me to some brilliant resources which I continue to devour and will help to inform future content. But as I look back on the journey so far, and turn to the next steps ahead I would love to hear what you have been enjoying reading on this platform and what you would like to hear more of. So please drop me a line in the comments below, or a message on Instagram @theeve__.
My hope for the next stage of The Eve is to build a community of like minded people with a love of fashion and interiors and be a valuable resource for you all to pursue these interests with sustainability in mind. So don’t be shy, I can't to hear from you!
